Vienna is a city full of cultural attractions such as museums. However, as much as we would like to visit all kinds of museums the city has to offer, we know that our wallet doesn’t stretch, so we need to filter the ones that are worth it, and it's even better if they're free - right? Note that most museums are free for people under 19 years old, and some are only open on the first Sunday of the month.

So, let’s be ambitious for a juvenile and discover Vienna without spending a dime!

Free museums all year long

Circus and Clown Museum

You can find everything that is circus-related in the circus and clown museum and there is free entrance all year long.

Opening hours: Sunday, 10:00 - 13:00. Every first and third Thursday in the month from 19:00 to 21:00.

Snow Globe Museum

There’s something magic in the snow globe itself. In this museum will be able to see the first snow globes that came to life. The museum was kept in the family of the man who invented the snow globe, Erwin Perzy, which is also a workshop where you can buy different designs of symbols, landmarks, or food in their shop. This makes a great souvenir to remember your time in Austria.

Opening hours: Monday – Thursday, 9:00 – 15:00

Free Museums on the first Sunday of each month

Museum of Military History (Heeresgeschichtliches Museum)

Explore Austria's military history through various exhibits and artifacts. Military History and wars, technology and natural science, art and architecture, are all blended together in The Museum of Military History of Vienna, to create one unique whole.

Opening Times: Every day from 9:00 to 17:00

Hermes Villa

Hermes Villa, also known as the "Palace of Dreams", is located in Lainzer Tiergarten. Emperor Francis Joseph gave it to her in the hope of persuading his wife – a keen traveller – to spend more time in Vienna. This little gem is one that can offer such a combination of art, culture, and the enjoyment of nature!

Opening hours: Tuesday to Sunday, 10:00- 18:00 (hours may change in fall/winter).

Roman Museum (Römermuseum)

The first city law of Vienna, aka Vindobona was the name of a Roman army camp that existed nearly 2000 years ago in what is now the historic city center of Vienna. This museum offers a five senses experience that help to understand life in Roman times through animated films, plicas made for touching and a Playmobil legionaries’ camp,

Otto Wagner Pavillon Karlsplatz

You can check out a cool exhibit about Otto Wagner's life and work at the Wien Museum. It's housed in this awesome Art Nouveau pavilion at Karlsplatz, which used to be a train station for the Stadtbahn. And while you're there, don't forget to swing by the shop where you can snag some neat stuff related to Otto Wagner and Vienna from back in the day!

Right in the heart of the city, you've got the Clock Museum, a one-of-a-kind spot that boasts a seriously impressive collection of clocks from all over Europe. Inside this charming Old Viennese building, you'll find 700 clocks ticking away. As you explore the three floors, you'll dive into the history of science, technology, and how clocks have evolved. Plus, you'll get a glimpse into how they've influenced art and design trends throughout the years. It's a pretty cool place!
